While summer is a break from traditional academics, it’s also a strategic planning period. Here’s how parents can help students stay motivated and intentional:

  • Set Summer Goals Together: Sit down and identify what your student hopes to accomplish over the summer—whether it’s completing college essays, saving money from a job, or preparing for college life.
  • Encourage Exploration: Support participation in camps, service work, jobs, or campus visits. These experiences help students clarify interests and build independence.
  • Provide Structure: Even during break, maintaining a loose daily schedule helps students stay productive without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Foster Communication: For college-bound seniors, start regular conversations about the transition—living independently, communicating with professors, handling stress, and managing time.
